Samsung announces the Omnia M

Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of the Samsung Omnia M (model: GT-I8350), a Windows Phone based smartphone for social and entertainment multi-taskers. The Omnia M will be available, starting in Europe and will rolled out to other regions, subsequently. The Omnia M features an ergonomic contoured casing that ensures that the device sits comfortably in your hand. A 4.0 inch Super AMOLED display with reduced glare provides a better viewing experience and lets you view messaging, multimedia and web content in better colour and clarity - even in daylight conditions, while saving significant battery life. Keeping up with your social life is easier with the Omnia M. Family Story, Samsung’s cloud-based family network, can be downloaded to let users share family messages, videos and photo slide-shows on a virtual bulletin-board with other Samsung devices. Samsung’s ChatON communication service connects you and users from any phone platform into a single community, enabling spontaneous group chatting and messaging—whether with text, animations or images.
Let’s have a quick look at the spec sheet of the Samsung Omnia M:
  • 4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 233 ppi
  • 1GHz processor
  • Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango
  • 4GB internal storage, 384 MB RAM
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • GPS with A-GPS support, Bing Maps
  • Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash,
  • Secondary video camera
  • 3.5 mm handsfree socket
  • 1500 mAh Lithium - ion battery
Pricing and availability for the Indian sub-region hasn’t been announced as of now, but looking at the specs, chances are bright that this could be an affordable budget Windows Phone by Samsung. With the Lumia 610 coming soon and keeping in mind it’s low budget pricing, what price would you buy the Omnia M at?

The Samsung Galaxy S3′s Pentile screen is all about longevity

If there is one thing tech geeks do well, it’s complaining. When Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy S3 last Thursday, the general response was positive. We were on hand in London to see the phone firsthand, and walked away generally impressed with Samsung’s newest Android handset.
Samsung is following Apple’s strategy with the Galaxy S line: a phone that isn’t completely cutting edge, but has a list of compelling features at a competitive price, creating a recipe for retail success. But who cares what the masses think, as we techies decided to hone in on the screen.
Samsung uses a PenTile AMOLED screen as opposed to a traditional RGB screen in the Galaxy S3. Pentile screens arrange the pixels in Red-Green-Blue-Green subpixels, instead of the Red-Green-Blue format of a traditional screen. This extra green pixel allows for fairly accurate color reproduction in about 2/3rds of the subpixels, and the result is a thinner profile screen. Samsung went for thin with the Galaxy S3, and it’s likely that the PenTile AMOLED helped meet those design objectives.
